TOULOUSE

Some cities’ charm sometimes can be very fascinating. Toulouse is one of these cities. Capital of Midi-Pyrénées region, the ‘Pink City’ is the 4th largest city in France with 437,000 inhabitants. Young, modern and dynamic, this European metropolis tingles your spine with a Latin heat that inspires both its temperature and architecture. Toulouse is ideally located one hour and a half away from the Mediterranean sea and the Pyrénées mountains. This makes it amazingly attractive.

Toulouse heritage

Toulouse is a city of contrasts with an exceptional heritage from the Renaissance period, the golden age of the town. The city hosts an amazing blend of red-orange coloured brick and stone buildings and a rich collection of historical monuments. You will find the prestigious Place du capitole, the famous Basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Jacobin Cloister and manor houses built during the Renaissance; as well as the Augustin Museum, the Saint-Raymond Museum, the Abattoirs Museum (dedicated to modern and contemporary art) and the Cité de l’Espace (Space City)…

Toulouse way of life

There are so many stops to enjoy on the walks, filled with a sense of the Toulouse ‘art of living’. Enjoying the ‘Midi Toulousain’ is a local expression that means taking time to live. The ambient atmosphere shows the true personality of the southern people: authentic, friendly and popular. Toulouse has a real knowledge when it comes to welcoming visitors and gathering them around a table to enjoy local products.

Toulouse local gastronomy

In Toulouse, gastronomy is part of the lifestyle. Eating well is of the utmost importance! Cassoulet, foie gras, duck fillet or duck confit, Toulouse sausage, cepes... dishes are created around traditional products sourced from all over the region. On the menu: rustic Pyrenean gastronomy with the taste of charcuterie, Quercy and the black gold of its truffles, le Rouergue with its hams, tripe, and Gascony with all the glory of goose and duck. The region offers many other enticing attractions: cheeses, country honey and jams, local patisseries and confectionary, such as the ‘bonbon de la violette’ or the ‘brique de Toulouse’. And of course, the great wines of the South-West (Fronton, Cahors, Gaillac, Madiran, etc.) and Armagnac, the elixir of D’Artagnan…

Toulouse Fiesta

Being an active and bustling city, Toulouse shares with its Spanish neighbour a taste for the “fiesta”. As France’s fourth university town with 110,000 students, Toulouse never sleeps. Day and night, people can enjoy the theatres, concerts, bodegas, restaurants, students celebrations and festivals which bring endless effervescence the so aptly named Pink City!

Toulouse sky and space

The birthplace of Concorde and the Ariane rocket, and home of the Airbus industry, the Pink City is involved in aeronautics and space, high-tech activities and research.

Toulouse nature and the Garonne river

Toulouse has also had a love affair with its river, the Garonne. Originating in the Pyrenees, it is lined with embankments bathed in sunshine. They are one of the favorite walking spots for the people of Toulouse. The right bank underscores the historic heart of a city reknowned for its shophistication and independance of spirit since the Middle Ages.
The city is easy to explore on foot, bike or boat along the Canal du Midi which has been classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Pedestrian alleyways in small squares decorated with fountains, beautiful avenues in vast gardens, medieval streets, you will be won over by its irresistable charm and beauty.

A 100-year-old love affair with rugby

Its identity is also expressed warmly through sport, especially rugby. Warm and spontaneous, Toulouse has had a 100-year-old love affair with rugby. A culture in its own right, it is epitomised by Stade Toulousain, one of the northern hemisphere’s best teams. People will like gathering to enjoy an exciting rugby match at the local stadium.

FRANCE
